Opgelucht - in de lucht, Up up and away!

"Oma airplane food isn't very nice."

Aankomst in Hong Kong. Prima verlopen.

Even stil zitten.

For almost everything and anything there is an App or gadget to help or inform about 'stuff'. And for tracking flights too. I have that App. Makes following loved ones handy. Flight arrivals, progress etc. Very handy.

The time has come. Son and daughter in law bring my grandson to the Airport in Melbourne. They check him in and the adventure can start. As I have all the flight information - I open the app and enter the data. Yes, the flight left on time. Not long after that I get a message. Well I never, it is my grandson." Oma we have WiFi on board." We chat a little, then he tells me he is practicing Dutch. On his iPad he has a wee book. It teaches handy frases and sayings. Quite funny, he has had a few months for this- but now is the perfect time.We practice together. It is a great way to pass those flight hours.

After some more chitchat he says, " oma the plane food isn't very nice." There was all sorts of weird stuff on the plate. I couldn't help but laugh. He couldn't hear me. " You'll have acquired more taste buds before your return flight. There is so much to discover here." He sent me some emoticons. 😱😉. We are going to have great fun, I just know it.

The arrival into Hong Kong and finding his way to the Gate went well. "Was very confusing" he said, "but I found it". He then had time to walk a bit stretching his legs. The stopover was short- after 2 and 1/2 hours they were taxing on the tarmac ready for take off.

I just checked his progress. All well. Can't wait till breakfast...... together.

Komt goed.

Many years ago when soaps were just invented ( except for Coronation Street that is) I used to take a break while the kids were having an afternoon nap. The programme started with the sand timer and the voice in the background saying, "Like sands of the hours glass, so are the days of our lives". Remember that?? Well, those of you from that time frame anyway. And so it is. Time and sand- they just flow through your fingers so fast. In one way, looking forward to the event of my grandson's arrival, that's great. On the other hand, it also means his time here will disappear quickly too. All the more reason to be well organised and make sure my planning is well thought out. Even the 'stay at home days'!

The list of must sees, must go to's and must have experienced' is vast. Probably too full, but rather that then miss out stuff. I'd rather scratch something off than ponder on 'what next'? Max's only wish is Berlin. And that'll definitely happen. The rest he is leaving up to me, as he pointed out, " oma you know what's the stuff that's important." So, I have a mandate- make sure he sees, does and experiences as much as possible- within reason!

The weather held me captivated for a while. I thought winter was never going to arrive. We now have sunny days and way low temperatures. All things going to plan (no not Murphy's Law) and spring will almost be on time. Let's face it, it can still snow in April I'm just hoping it won't.

Last Monday I went into town and purchased a selfie stick, and a tripod for the phone. I'm a pretty modern oma as far as that's concerned. Give most things a go. Hoping to get the videos and events online so the home front get a more accurate and lively report instead of just photos and silent
messages. I'll post the link here shortly. Lots to learn. Have no experience on that level at all. But you can teach an old dog new tricks. I'll learn.

The map for Scotland is at the ready too. It'll be interesting to see what we will get up to there. Starting in Edinburgh and doing day trips or even maybe an overnighter away...for the somewhat longer haul? Who knows. In 2001 I sent him a t-shirt from Rob Roy and I climbed the Wallace Tower sending some things over for my grandson at the time. Now we can do this together. So exciting.

Anyway, I'm getting organised. Hope he is too? Never know with these young ones. Up and at 'm. Pack up and go. I know he is getting more and more excited too. Now just the hurdle of the flight. His flying experience is restricted to flights to New Zealand. This is a whole new ball game. Just getting his head around it is enough. The transfer on the way here- a short stop over. A bit longer on the way home. But then he knows the drill. Follow the signs and all will be well. OmaFarAway is slowly edging closer.
